Meeting Sergey Brin
Every thursday, we have company-wide announcements called TGIF. On my last TGIF, the UX design interns and I came up with a brave plan to ask Larry and Sergey out to chat. We didn't have high hopes knowing their busy schedules, after all, they're Larry and Sergey, some of the more powerful and influential people in the tech industry. During the live question part of TGIF, the 10 of us stood up and asked them what every intern wanted; a chance to have a lunch or coffee chat with the Google co-founders. It was nerve-wracking but exciting at the same time. There was a moment of hesitation and silence in the auditorium before Sergey said yes to a coffee date!
Not many people, even Googlers at Mountain View, have had the opportunity to chat with Google co-founder Sergey Brin yet we were lucky enough to have a 1 hr coffee chat with him together with the 9 other UX design interns in Mountain View.
It was the last day of my internship at Google when I had the coffee date with Sergey! I won't go into too much detail about what we talked about but I will say that it was one of the best chats I've had at Google because it wasn't only one person asking with Sergey answering, but instead, a group discussion about a variety of topics relating to tech and design. It was really nice to see Sergey really humble and genuinely interested in our thoughts about current apps, wearable technology, where we see design headed, etc.
His final words to us before the end of our chat was to remind ourselves constantly that "We are very lucky".
